Dreaming of a charming cottage reminiscent of films like “On Golden Pond” or “The Holiday” to retreat to, and make you feel truly enchanted? Gleesome Inn on Lake Blue Ridge is a wonderful vintage style lake cottage, and just the property you’ve been searching for. Gleesome Inn combines vintage furnishings and lakeside living, in a well-preserved Golden Age cottage, with just enough modern touches for added comfort.
Imagine this: You’re driving along Eaton Road, named after the original family of the “Gleesome Inn”, catching glimpses here and there of the famed Lake Blue Ridge. You’re making your way to two stone columns with a paved driveway. Stonewalls edge their way along the paved driveway, surrounded by native trees and sprawling English Ivy. The cottage was originally a treasured lake retreat for Dr. Eaton, a medical surgeon and his family. He once served the U.S. military in various parts of Europe. During his travels, he brought many decorative items and furniture to “Gleesome Inn” to give the cottage the European charm he had come to love while traveling.
Upon arrival, you’ll find a lovely lakeside cottage, guesthouse, and rustic playhouse, which is perfect for children. Native trees surround the quiet area, and with so few neighbors you will feel tucked away by the lake. The grounds have established beautiful plants, including Oak Leaf Hydrangeas, in the cottage’s landscaping along with a serenity water garden. The serenity water garden is ideal for reading as the water trickles down the rocks, the birds sing, and you breathe the fresh mountain air. During warm months it is not uncommon to enjoy the small finches bustling about by the water and shrubs. The cottage is topped with slate stone-style shingles, and has a great wrap around deck with an abundance of deck furniture for the ultimate lakeside living space.
The main level deck also has a screened in patio area with additional seating space. Inside the main level you will find a kitchen and dining area, two separate bedrooms, a full bath, a large great room with wood-burning fireplace, as well as a handy powder room. The dining table has seating for 6 guests, large windows, and a kitchen bar with seating for 3 guests. Just off the cozy kitchen are two separate bedrooms. Each room consists of a Queen Size bed, ample closet space, and sliding glass doors to the deck for access to the serenity water garden. The main level bathroom is a few steps away from both bedrooms, offering a single vanity, and sliding glass standard shower. The great room on the main level is simply splendid, and will instantly take you into a storybook feel of foxhunting in the English countryside. The great room has crisp white walls topped with beautiful wood rafters, and a floor-to-ceiling, stacked stone, wood-burning fireplace. The fireplace has large cabinetry on each side, with one side boasting a large flat screen TV. This room has several doors to the main level deck for plenty of natural light, and access to the deck area.
The upper level has two separate bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and the other with a king bed. Both bedrooms have windows allowing natural light to pour in, as you get ready to enjoy the lake for the day. This level also has one bathroom with a single vanity, beautiful French-country antique wallpaper, and a standard glass door shower.
The lower level contains an open floor plan that offers a seating area with a flat screen TV, kitchenette space and a King size bed. The kitchenette area is perfect for snacks, or grabbing a quick bite before heading back out to the water. This level also has a tile standard shower, and single vanity sink. Outside, the lower level has even more outdoor furniture to experience true lakeside living, and the beautiful Blue Ridge Georgia Mountains. The lake sits like a mirror just steps away from the house, with an easy walk way down to the dock house and accompanying boat dock. Luxurious seating at the dock house provides a comfortable vantage point for watching the lake waves roll in and your family enjoying the water. The dock also has tie up space available for 1 – 2 boats, so you can get out and explore Lake Blue Ridge on your own!
